In recent years, mental health issues have become more prominent. At Garstang CC, we recognise this and we are working closely with TeamREB to raise awareness around mental health and are encouraging people to talk.
TEAMReb seeks to raise awareness of our mental health and mental illnesses through discussion and partnerships. Our goal is to provide the means with which to start conversations; to give mental health a voice; and to spread the understanding and undoing the stigma that surrounds mental ill-health. We're all on the same TEAM.
Regardless of whether you are connected to the club or not, we have an avenue for everyone to be able to open up and talk to someone.
Speaking to Rebecca, “The game of cricket is one that’s quite unique. It’s based around individual performances within a team setting. Individual statistics are compared and measured, there’s a pressure to perform unlike other team sports where you can rectify your mistakes over time, in cricket you don’t have many opportunities for a chance at redemption. A large number of professional players have spoken out about their own mental health struggles in recent years. Kate Cross, Marcus Trescothick, Sarah Taylor, Jonathon Trott, Michael Yardy.. the list goes on.
May is mental health awareness month and I’m pleased to announce that Garstang Cricket Club are making the mental health of their players and club members a priority.
This month is the perfect time to start conversations, raise awareness and promote good mental health; And with a thriving mens, juniors and now women’s section, Garstang CC is the perfect setting for a new board and wellbeing resources to ensure nobody is ‘caught out’ suffering in silence.”
Chairman, Michael Walling, “I encourage everyone to open up and talk to someone if you are struggling, it doesn’t matter how big or small the problem is, mine and other peoples door is always open. It is great to work with TeamREB and be able to offer this to everyone in the local community, regardless of whether they are associated with the club or not.
Sport can be a great escape for people, but it can also pose significant challenges, so don’t be scared of talking openly about those challenges faced.”
Don’t feel isolated, there is always someone here that can help and available to talk to. If you want to talk, then please contact your team manager/captain, Rebecca Worthington or Michael Walling (Phone – 07815 914890 or Email Gcc_cricket@outlook.com)
